Protect from the Pest

Updated: Jun 6, 2019

Hiring a Pest Control Operator (PCO) to eliminate pest issues is not the only step that is needed for effective pest control. Operators of establishments must also contribute to the success of pest control program. With the help of the PCO, establishment can implement an Integrated Pest Management (IMP) system. This system combines pest prevention and pest control. Here are a few tips to help fight pest

  • Property- Check the ground for excessive debris and unused equipment, these can provide safe haven for pest. Trim bushes and trees away from the building, this can provide a highway for pest to access the building. Also, periodically clean around the dumpster to prevent an attraction for pest. Keeps lids closed on all outside receptacles and check for leaks

  • Exclude- Prevent pest from entering the interior of the building. Repair holes in walls that lead to the exterior. For openings that are constantly open or may be open for extended periods of time, install air curtains or screens. Check that door sweeps and weather stripping are in place around all exterior doors

  • Sanitary- A clean establishment is crucial to preventing a food source and attractant for pest. “Clean as you go” is a great approach to prevent cleaning task from piling up. Implement a daily cleaning schedule for employees to follow. Cleaning schedules should include equipment, floors, walls, under/behind equipment, and employee locker room areas just to list a few

  • Team work- Working together with the PCO can lead to a successful pest management system
